Top 3 tips for (keeping) New Year’s resolutions.

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Christmas? No, unfortunately not.

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Summer? Still no. Sorry.

It’s beginning to look a lot like… The time of year when people across the globe analyse their shortcomings in great detail, to comply with that oh-so-horrible phrase: “New year, new me’? Yep, that sounds about right.

New Year’s resolutions are presented as the perfect start to the potentially-perfect year: the year where you will make hundreds of new friends, learn a foreign language, become a world-famous novelist and travel the globe. And whilst, of course, this is never out of the realms of possibility, the likelihood is you are setting yourself up for at least some disappointment.

Hence, I have listed (what I think are) the top three tips for keeping attainable New Year’s resolutions.

Firstly, choose your resolution well.

In the long run, it will be much more beneficial if you have one specific focus for self-development. So, rather than having a list of 10 random self-improvement ideas that essentially ruminate over your personal inadequacies, you could choose one achievable resolution.

Secondly, track your progress.

If you write down every time you go to the gym, or every time you get to bed before midnight, then the sense of achievement and progression will help to motivate you to carry on.

For example, if your resolution is to become a better runner, then being able to look back when you could only run for three minutes will seem a lot more impressive when you can eventually run for twenty minutes.

Finally, don’t be scared by setbacks.

Everyone needs a break sometimes. If you accidentally eat a whole pizza instead of a bowl of quinoa – don’t feel defeated or frustrated, just carry on and acknowledge that you probably really needed that treat.

Because, we are all only human. And not eating pizza for the next year, in my opinion, doesn’t sound all that fun.

Nevertheless – good luck. 2019 is waiting for you.

Tech addiction

With advancements everyday in the world of technology, it can be hard to see how better smartphones and tablets and video games could possibly be a bad thing. Interactive whiteboards in schools and online homework make education so much simpler while the tiny computers in our pockets make communication across the globe the norm. Fifty years ago such things were a vague dream up there with flying cars and commercial space travel, but now it can be hard to escape the wide reach of technology. We are – quite literally – living the dream. Continue reading “Tech addiction”

Shhh…

With increasing workloads and a million other stuff that needs to be done getting enough sleep can seem like it’s not that big a priority. You may have been told growing up that sleeping can help your body recuperate from the day’s activities but with only 50 kcal of energy being saved in eight hours sleep (that’s about the same as a piece of toast) that doesn’t seem to be the case. So why is sleep so important? Continue reading “Shhh…”

Not Dead Yet

With the recent release of David Attenborough’s new series ‘Planet Earth 2’, attention has once again turned towards the environment and how we can preserve it. For years we’ve been warned about the dangers our present lifestyles are posing to the rainforests, oceans, bees and/or polar bears. Everything we do seems to hurt some part of the natural world, so much so that some are even wondering if global warming even exists, but with a new report saying global wildlife populations have dropped by 58% since 1970, it seems like the warnings weren’t unfounded.

Gleam Features do Chistmas

Gleam Feature; the only reason we have videos to watch daily.

They are the management of practically all the youtubers we watch, admire and enjoy almost daily. Zoe, Joe, Alfie, Jim, Tanya, Marcus, Louise and Caspar to name a few.

The time has come for the Gleam Team to party hard. Christmas is upon us and YouTubers never miss a chance to party. So they all packed their bags and headed for a day out in ……….. They took part in team challenges and competed against each other in outdoor activities that threw them right in at the deep end. They did segwaying, quad biking, human table football and clay pigeon shooting, all very different to beauty and fashion vlogging and humorous videos.

This YouTube management sent a bunch of avid technology fans, people who spend their lives indoors filming and editing videos, into the wild. They put them in a field and told them to enjoy the outdoors, although not without their vlogging cameras at the end of their arms of course. It must be hilarious when YouTubers spend the day together but all just talk to cameras.

Some enjoyed the day in a field, some thrived on being outdoors, and others turned up in a dress with a handbag. Yes Zoe, we are looking at you.

A day filled with humour, laughter and exciting experiences with your friends is always going to be fun and it did look highly amusing. We wish we could have tagged along… maybe one day.

Eventually the technology yearning became too much to handle and they were all let back inside to warm up and get ready for the party!!

From the vlogs that have been uploaded we have witnessed many hotel room tours; outfits of the night; food supplied in the rooms to drunken antics.

By all the vlogging accounts a fun night was had by all. At least one member of the team had an awesome night. Joesph Sugg, as seen in many vlogs, took it upon himself to party the night away. I’m sure he woke up the next day feeling a bit worse for wear but it made for some hilarious vlogs.

The night ended, hangovers arrived and some people probably regretted partying as hard as they did.

My favourite car is the new S-Class Coupe. I like it because it has nice wheels and I like the patterns on the seat in black. The Coupe has three doors, which makes it look sporty.
