A few weekends back another major awards ceremony occurred this time it was the Screen Actors Guild awards or most commonly know as the SAG Awards.
The Awards took place on Saturday in Los Angeles. American Hustle took the top honour of ‘Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture’ which is technically the equivalent to ‘Best Picture’ which is slowly but surely making me think that this film could in fact take ‘Best Picture’ at this years Academy Awards. David O’Russell’s latest masterpiece beat fellow front runners 12 Years A Slave, August: Osage County, Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Dallas Buyers Club.
However Dallas Buyers Club did not leave empty handed as the film’s male lead Matthew McConaughey won ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role’ and his co-star Jared Leto won ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role’. McConaughey seems to be the favourite for best actor closely followed by Leonardo DiCaprio who was not nominated for the SAG.
12 Years A Slave also didn’t do too badly as Lupita Nyong’o won ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role’. She is also closely followed by Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in American Hustle.
Cate Blanchett took the award for ‘Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role’ an award which I was expecting her to get but now the race between her and Amy Adams for the Oscar is a close one.
