Iron Man Three opened in cinemas of April of this year, which was triggered the start of Marvels ‘Phase Two’ project, which is the second phase of the Avengers Initiative – leading up to Avengers Two: Age of Ultron, which according to Screenrant* will be gracing our big screens in 2015
Spoilers for Iron Man Three and Phase Two below cut,
What exactly is Phase two, you ask? Well it’s the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion on New York last year, which caused death and destruction to the state. We’ve already seen Tony Stark (Robert Downey JR) battle through PTSD* and deal with thinking he’d lost his girlfriend, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) in Iron Man Three. So we’ve seen that, and now we’re waiting on seeing the others reactions towards the events.
Next we’re going to see how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) deal with things on their end, we’ve already seen through trailers and interviews, that Loki will be released from his Asgardian prison to help Thor fight in what looks like a war of Asgard, not a war of Earth, which will be interesting to watch. It’s also going to be interesting to see Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) on Asgard, and it looks liek we’re going to see her bump heads with Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) for Thor’s affection.
What I cant wait for in next year, when we get our third installment of Phase Two, which will be Steve Rodgers’ (Chris Evans, Captain America) look on things. We’re finally going to see how he’s responding and living with this new world he awoke in. We’re also going to be seeing more of Agent Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow) – and possibly a romance between the Captain and the famous assassin. Although, any of you who may have read the comics like me, will know that Romanoff, in fact engages in a physical relationship with Steve’s previously (or thought to be) deceased friend, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) who is the Winter Soldier in the second movie – it will be interesting to see how they work the S.H.I.E.L.D relationships into this, as in the comics (and hinted in Avengers) that she was in fact in love with Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye).
I’m also looking forward to how they’re going to play with Steve’s character, and how they’re going to use the news of Peggy’s (Hayley Atwell) alive status to their advantage, and whether they’ll follow the comic route and have him fly to London to give her the dance he promised. I personally hope they do, as the crashing scene broke my heart.
I’d like to deviate a little and talk about Phase Three, I’m going to skip around discussing Avengers Two, otherwise this will be thousands of words long (Really, that’s not an exaggeration).
Ant-Man has been ordered to be the first movie in the Phase Three line-up, which I’m unhappy about, because Ant-Man really isn’t a character I like, so I won’t be looking forward to him becoming part of the team. Now before all you comic-book nuts scream and shout about Ant-Man being an original Avenger, I know. I just dislike his character and Wasp, who is his wife in the comics. I was glad when they deviated from that in the movies.
Well, I think I’ve told you enough about the second phase in the Marvel line up, and even a little about Phase Three. I would have liked to go into Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D a bit, but I’ve decided to save that for a future planned episode review.
Thor Two: 30th October 2013
Captain America: 4th April 2014
Avengers Two: May 1st 2015
NOTE: These are just the Avenger-verse releases. Marvel has many more movies coming out.
