Are you 17 this year and want to take advantage of the free National Citizen Service COURSE?

The National Citizen Service (NCS) Programme

I would like to tell you about an exciting opportunity which is taking place this summer which you may wish to take advantage of as it is FREE!

The National Citizen Service (NCS) programme is a Government funded initiative aimed at all young people who will be completing either Year 11 or Year 12 this year. It is open to any young person in this age group regardless of whether they are progressing on to Further Education or employment, even if they’re not sure of their ‘next step’.

The aims of the programme are to:

  • Make      new friends
  • Learn      new skills
  • Take      part in a community project
  • Gain      valuable experience which will contribute to their CV and support      applications for colleges/universities or employment
  • Show      that young people can make a difference
  •  The NCS programme will be taking place in the summer holidays from 23rd July – 17th August and includes:
  • Week One – outdoor activities residential (staying 4 nights away      from home)
  • Week Two – residential (4 nights away) learning new skills,      team building and finding out about how society and communities work and      the issues they have to address
  • Week Three – non-residential working in Teams to develop a local      community project (based at Strode)
  • Week Four (30 hours) – carrying out the local community project (working      in the Community)

Strode College has 60 places available and these are being offered on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The places are FREE but we are asking for a £25 deposit which is refundable if the course is completed.

If you would like more information about the NCS, we are holding an information evening to give more details about the programme and also give an opportunity for those interested to participate in some team-building and problem-solving activities. The evening will also give participants an opportunity to sign up for the programme if they wish.

The information evening will be held on two dates: the 24th and 26th April at 6.30pm in B3. If you would like to attend one of the evenings at Strode College, please contact the Student Support Centre A.S.A.P If you cannot attend one of the evenings but are still interested then please contact the Student Support Centre.

If you have any queries about the NCS programme that you would like to discuss over the phone or via email then please feel free to phone me on 01458 844543 or email: sbutler@strode-college.ac.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you or meeting you in the near future.
