There will be series of seminars on the foundation degrees and Higher National Diploma offered here at Strode College.

The seminar is open to all Strode Students, but particularly those who are in their A2 or in the last year of their level 3 programme.

The Programme:

Monday 19 March 2012 in M203

  • 12.20pm – Foundation Degree in Managing in Public Sector Services
  • 12.45pm – Foundation Degree in e-Business Technologies
  • 1.05pm – Foundation Degree in Heritage, History and Archaeology

Monday 26 March 2012 in M203

  • 12.30pm – Foundation Degree in Creative Arts
  • 12.55pm – Higher National Diploma in Health and Social Care

Let’s Go Riding

We are pleased to announce that we have been successful in achieving funding From Somerset Sports Partnership through the SPORTIVATE project to provide Riding lessons and stable management at Sidcot Equestrian Centre at Greatly reduced prices for Strode Students.

The activity starts on Wednesday 18 April from 12.30pm to 4.00pm and includes:

  • • A 45 minute riding lesson (horses provided!)
  • • A 45 minute stable management lesson which leads to British Horse
  • Association Certificates up to level 6
  • • Transport to and from College
  • • Hats and boots (although you may use your own wellies if they have a heel)

Lessons are suitable for all levels – complete beginner, rusty rider and advanced rider!

All this for the weekly cost of just £12 instead of £25!

You must complete six weeks of attendance, and if you wish to continue after the six week Programme, then the fee increases to £19 per week.

 All students in receipt of materials and travel awards are requested to submit receipts for their spring term allocation to the Student Support Centre by Thursday 29 March.  Please use your allocation as any unspent money will be returned to the Young Peoples Learning Agency or Skills funding Agency, the government departments that provides the funds.

Touché Deloitte

Touché Deloitte is one of the most prestigious companies offering financial services in the UK. They have schemes to support college leavers looking for employment, (as well as university undergraduates)

A representative from Touché Deloitte will be giving a talk on Monday 19 March at 12.30 in Strode Theatre

This talk is open to ALL students. I would particularly encourage anyone who has an interest in Accounting, Business, Maths or Economics to come along. There is no sign up for this. Just come along to the Theatre at the right time (above).

Buses

 Just to let you know that Bus Route 652 starting from Stoke-sub-Hamdon to Strode will be changing provider from Quantock Motors to South West Coaches after Easter.

Lost and Found

Remember Lost and Found is situated in the Student Support centre in the Refectory. If you have lost or have found anything then please report to The Student Support centre. If items/Clothing if not claimed before Half Term they are either disposed of or donated to charities.

Not got a C CARD?

If you would like to join the CCARD scheme and get free condoms please come in to Student Support Centre and arrange to sign up.

Once your Ccard is activated then you can either drop in to The Student Support centre or email us your orders on

studentsupport@student.strode-college.ac.uk

Free Cycle “Repair and Ride” Scheme – Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21th and Thursday 22nd March 2012.

On Tuesday 20th, Wednesday 21th and Thursday 22nd March we have a Cycle “Repair and Ride Scheme” taking place at Strode College for staff and students in front of C block, from 8.30 am – 4.30 pm.

A member of staff from D C Cycle works will be there to offer a free maintenance and repair service involving checking the frame and fork, adjusting the headset, resetting the brakes, tightening all bolts, checking wheels, inflating tyres to correct pressure, checking and re-setting gears and checking the chain set.  No appointment necessary – just take your bike along.

Emotional Well-Being Week

Emotional Well Being Awareness Week takes place next week, Monday 19 March – Friday 23 March.

On Tuesday 20 March, 10.00 – 2.00 we are holding a Healthy Eating Session in the Refectory – students can sample free healthy foods provided by local suppliers to the College.

Throughout the week there will be a wide range of information leaflets available for students in the Refectory to take away on matters such as Healthy Eating, Depression, Cancer, and Domestic Abuse, Self-Harm, Physical Activity and Weight Loss, Mental Well Being, Bereavement, Psychosis, Exams Stress, Drugs and Suicide. The Refectory will have relevant poster displays throughout. Come along and check it out!
